ABC UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

A PARENT’S GUIDE

In California, about one in four of our school aged children ride school buses regularly to and from their schools.  Yet nearly all children will ride school buses sometime in their school years for field trips, sporting events, and other special functions.  The ABC School District Transportation System provides home to school service to approximately 1,500 students or 8% of the students. There are 5 high schools, 5 middle schools, and 19 elementary schools that the transportation department travels to daily, traveling an average of 2000 miles per day.

WHO RIDES THE BUS?

The ABC School District governing board provides transportation privileges for pupils residing beyond walking distances from the school of their enrollment.  The distances established are as follows:

K-3               1.0 miles

4-8                1.5 miles

9-12               3.0 miles
