Parent Involvement

WELCOME TO COMMUNITY CLUB!

As a parent or guardian of a Juarez Academy student, you are automatically a member of the Juarez Academy Community Club! The Community Club is excited to engage parents and guardians this year through school-wide activities, fundraisers and so much more!

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Juarez Academy welcomes parent volunteers! You can volunteer in many ways and places. Some parents help us from their homes preparing instructional materials while others work in classrooms, in the library, provide assistance for special activities or help on field trips. If you wish to volunteer at the school site or for field trips you will need to comply with the ABC District Volunteer Policy and Procedures before beginning as a volunteer. These policies and procedures are as follows:

  • All volunteers must sign a letter of assurance that they have no criminal record of a violent or serious felony.
  • All persons who serve as a volunteer at a school site and are in contact with students five (5) hours or more per week must provide proof of a current tuberculin test (TB test) to be kept on file at our school site. The testing must be completed within 60 days prior to your assignment and must be retaken every four years. Please see the school secretary for a list of times and sites where you may obtain the test for a nominal fee. NOTE: If you volunteer LESS than 5 hour per week, you will NOT be required to get a TB test.
  • Before authorizing any person to serve as a volunteer non-teaching aide or volunteer instructional aide, the principal or designee must conduct an automated records check through the Megan’s Law website. A person who is required to register as a sex offender may not serve as a volunteer in any capacity. (Education Code 35021).

OTHER WAYS TO BE INVOLVED

We also have many opportunities for involving parents as partners in the decision-making process related to student achievement.

  • School Site Council (SSC)
  • District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC)
  • Juarez English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
  • Student Success Team (SST) – This team meets to address student needs including academics, behavior and attendance.

We also offer various parent workshops (behavior/discipline, academics, health/nutrition) throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to attend our Back-to-School Night, Open House, Family Night events, Family Picnic on the Grass, and trimester awards ceremonies.
